Country-Side (Bawjiase Orphanage) Children's Home, Ghana

Countryside orphanage is an independent, charitable, non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to the positive development and the welfare of under privileged children in the Ghanaian society.

It was established in the year 1981 by Madam Emma Boafo Yeboah through an inspiration by an American missionary couple at Winneba in the Central part of Ghana. It was dully registered with the Registrar General Department and the Department of Social Welfare and received the Certificate of Recognition and Incorporation in the year 1994 and 1998 respectively.

The orphanage is located at the Eastern outskirts of Bawjiase township on Bawjiase-Kasoa road. It is about 60 Kilometres away from Accra, the capital city of Ghana and about 25 minutes drive from Agona Swedru. There is a regular movement of cars connected to both of these places.

Preamble: The Countryside Children's Welfare Home (Bawjiase Orphanage) seeks to meet the needs of needy children, to provide them with a future as God provides the resources through mankind

Our Accomplishments: The Home has good records of survival of all the abandoned babies sent from the department of Social Welfare, Police and elsewhere, many of whom arrived in critical conditions as these babies were left unattended to for days. The Home's Preparatory School offers excellent tuition for all the inmates and some children from Bawjiase community. The Home also offers basic education for the inmates up to the Junior Secondary School(JSS) level. Basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, entertainment, and others are being provided for over hundred and fifty inmates of the Home. Since the Home receives no funds or financial support from the Government of Ghana, it relies on the support and donations from individuals, churches and organisations to provide these basic need for these children May God bless and reward all who have helped and continue to help in divers ways.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES
To create a comfortable home for the inmates. The establishment of a basic school and Junior Secondary School. A Vocational Training Institute is paramount. These will serve the inmates and the community as well.
To go into vegetables, poultry and livestock farming in order to supplement the nutritional needs of the children. These will also generates income for the running of the Home.
To open a mini shop to sell the farm products and handicrafts from the inmates of the orphanage
To unite all the inmates of the home into a big Christian family.
To provide decent accommodation for all These abandoned children who come into the care of the Home
Try our best to install self-esteem, hope and give proper future for the inmates of the Home
 
OUR NEEDS
Every child has the right to shelter, food., Clothing, education and good health being the nation's future. Since the Home receives no financial or material support from the government of Ghana,our children live on the kind of support from churches, organisations and individuals like you. Our needs are many and the major ones includes the following:
Stable and regular sponsors
Financial support for the orphanage
Foodstuffs of all kinds
Stationary,school materials, teaching & learning aids
Clothing and footwear
Adequate accommodations for all the inmates
Wages for staff
Agricultural, Carpentry and Masonry tools
A mini bus for the Home
 
What is new at the Home?
The new dormitory for the children,"Finland-House" which would also be the new babies-block is near completion. It is part of the Antobam-project being funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs -Finland (Department of International Development co-operation -80%) and The Africa Centre Finland -ACF (Association 20%). ACF is also the co-ordinator of the project. Appeal for support for the Home Volunteers, as well as financial and material help are needed for the CSCWH. A donation of 50 euros/year can cater for one child at the Home.
 

Countryside Orphanage is a small and dynamic organisation with the strongest will to help abandoned, orphans and deprived children in the central part of Ghana where deprivation has dramatic consequences.

Countryside orphanage for its existence now has done a lot, but many more need to be done. Your help is Needed to continue. It cannot be done without your support. After your staying at the Orphanage you can become a partner/member / volunteer of countryside orphanage and join us in our efforts to help These children.

About Ghana

Ghana, a former British colony known as the Gold Coast, is a country in Western Africa, bounded on the north and Northwest by Burkina Faso, on the east by Togo, on the south by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the west by Cote D'Ivoire. The total area is 238,537 sq. km. ( 92,099 sq. mi.) The capital and largest city is Accra. Some important cities are Tema, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Tamale.

Ghana has a tropical climate with temperatures varying with season and elevation. The climate of Ghana is tropical with monthly temperatures ranging from 24oC to 35oC. The annual average temperature is about 26oC. Ghana has an estimated total population of about 18 million (2000) with an average annual growth rate of 3%. Average population density is 50 persons/kmsq. About 66% of the population live in the rural areas. 27% of Ghanaians is estimated to be living in extreme poverty (less than $100 per annum), with 30% having no access to safe drinking water. 72.5% of children are enrolled in primary school, 60% in primary Junior Secondary School, and 18% in Senior Secondary. 87% of children attend public school whilst 13% attend private school. Adult literacy is about 48% in general, with adult literacy for men standing at 62%, and 36% for women.
